(For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)
was founded in 1989 for the purpose of inspiring the
nation's youth to study and excel in science and technology.
FIRST has accomplished this goal over the past two decades through not only the FIRST Robotics Competition
(The program Team 291 participates in), but through
FIRST Lego League and FIRST Tech Challenge. All three programs challenge
students to apply and expand their knowledge of science
and technology through the real world application of
robotics. The programs also encourage friendly competition
and cooperation, essential tools for future careers.
